I Tried the Dunkin Sugarplum Macchiato | Review

Dunkin Sugarplum Macchiato Review

Dunkin just released a new flavor for the holidays — a Dunkin Sugarplum Macchiato coffee. The sweet and pretty purple-hued beverage will only be around for the holiday season. So if you’re curious about how it tastes, read on!

Apparently, the Sugarplum syrup flavor has been in the works for a while, according to Dunkin’s news release.

Dunkin layers espresso under the milky Sugarplum mixture which “features the bright berry flavors of blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, and plum, accented by notes of vanilla, and rounded out with a sweet sugary finish,” according to Dunkin’s press release. They continue by saying, “he combination of Dunkin’s premium espresso, milk, and sugarplum flavor creates a whimsical, light-purple layered appearance for a beverage that is sure to start winter with a wow.”

The light plum color comes from plant sources, and the syrup has a frosty berry finish to the flavor.

An interesting insider fact is that this drink was in Dunkin’s research and development for a few years before becoming a reality. The team wanted to make a drink based on “Nutcracker” fantasies, and that’s how the Dunkin Sugarplum Macchiato was born!

In addition to this seasonal drink, Dunkin released a complementary donut called a Frosted Snowflake Donut. It’s a regular glazed donut topped with matching purple frosting and white sugar snowflakes.

You can order the Dunkin Sugarplum Macchiato coffee either hot or iced, and today I tried the iced version. It was a really pretty drink to look at with the dark espresso on top of the light purple Sugarplum milky syrup.

However, the flavor was not my favorite of the offerings. I found it a little cloying and sweet for my taste.

On the other hand, the donut was very fresh and tasted great–a perfect afternoon treat!

ooooh. I wonder if Dunkin would ever branch off into the Boba tea world. For some reason this drink reminds me of a boba with it’s bright colors and fruity taste.
